Summary: In the context of internationalisation of higher education institutions the components of professional skills and requirements for professional competence of a foreign language teacher have been characterized in the article. The professional competence of a foreign language teacher is an integral quality of the personality. It is manifested in a set of competencies such as: professional (didactic, psychological, methodological), linguistic (philological), communicative, informational, socio-cultural, project, reflective. These competencies ensure the efficiency of the professional activity of a foreign language teacher and meet the requirements for the foreign language teacher’s professional competence in the context of internationalisation of higher education institutions.
