Summary: The article examines the current state of health insurance in Ukraine, problems and prospects for the introduction of compulsory health insurance as one of the sources of funding for health care. The basic principles of compulsory health insurance are considered. The directions and expected results from the medical reform in Ukraine are considered, taking into account the experience of foreign countries. An analysis of the number of insurance companies in Ukraine was made, as well as a rating of Ukrainian insurance companies in the field of health insurance was built and presented. Ways to overcome the crisis period in the domestic health care system have been identified. The main stages of implementation of compulsory and voluntary insurance as a single complex are considered.
