Summary: As part of the implementation of regional policy to promote small business development, regional programs for business development are being implemented, which were developed in all regions of the country on the basis
of their partial financing from local budgets. In the article, based on the results of a comprehensive study of existing methodological approaches to assessing the economic efficiency of small business, it was found that most
of them are based on quantitative methods and do not take into account the qualitative characteristics of agribusiness development. It is proposed to use both econometric and expert methods during the evaluation, which will
ensure the objectivity of the obtained results. Approbation of the improved methodology not only allowed to establish the level of economic efficiency of small business development in the region (by its individual industry
segment), but also to identify its "painful" points of growth and development: low quality of work, low equity, high dependence on debt and involved sources of financial support, inefficiency of the cost management system.
